Russia has issued a strong warning that the delivery of Tomahawk Missiles Ukraine would cross a red line and escalate the ongoing war. The warning follows Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s request to US President Donald Trump during the UN General Assembly.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov questioned whether Ukrainians or US forces would operate the missiles while former Russian President Dmitry Medvedev warned the move could risk conflict involving weapons of mass destruction.
The Tomahawk missiles with a range of up to 2,500km would give Ukraine the ability to strike deep into Russian territory far beyond the range of current Western supplied systems. Analysts say the weapons could hit airbases and command centers but may not change the overall course of the war.
European leaders remain cautious with Germany refusing to send its own long range Taurus missiles. NATO states like Poland and Estonia meanwhile report growing Russian airspace violations.
The Tomahawk debate highlights how each new Western weapons delivery tests Moscow’s red lines raising fears of further escalation in the RussiaUkraine conflict.
