Microsoft has confirmed that Microsoft Xbox prices will increase across the United States starting in October. The company says the move comes after a careful review of the broader economic environment.
This is the second time in 2025 that Xbox fans in the US are facing higher prices. Earlier this year Microsoft raised its console prices globally and now American buyers are seeing another hike. Accessories such as controllers and headsets will remain at the same cost and international markets are not affected.
The Xbox Series S which previously retailed at 379$ will now cost 399$. A one terabyte version of the Series S is priced at 449$. The Xbox Series X Digital Edition has gone up to 599 which represents a 50 dollar increase. The Xbox Series X with a disc drive also received a similar jump and is now listed at 649$.
At the top end the premium Xbox Series X Galaxy Black with two terabytes of storage will be sold at 799. Earlier this year the same model was priced at 599 then climbed to 729 and has now reached almost 800. In less than six months this model alone has seen nearly a 200 dollar rise.
Why the Price Hike

In a statement on its website Microsoft explained that the new pricing was made with careful consideration and reflects current economic challenges. While the company avoided directly blaming tariffs many analysts believe US trade policies and supply chain costs are playing a major role.
President Donald Trump’s administration has recently introduced new tariffs with the stated goal of increasing domestic production. These tariffs have already pushed other consumer electronics companies to raise prices. Rivals Nintendo and Sony have also raised the cost of their consoles in the US during the same period.
Impact on Gamers
The higher cost means gamers will now have to spend significantly more to upgrade to the latest Xbox hardware. For casual players the smaller Series S remains the most affordable option but even that device has gone up. For serious gamers who want the most powerful console the 2TB Series X Galaxy Black now carries a premium price tag that may be out of reach for many households.
Despite the challenges Microsoft says it remains focused on providing value. The company is also promoting Xbox Game Pass and cloud gaming as alternative ways for players to access a wide library of titles without needing to buy the most expensive hardware.
