US President Donald Trump has warned that Hamas faces complete obliteration if it refuses to give up power in Gaza. His statement came as Gaza ceasefire talks 2025 continue in Egypt to end the ongoing conflict.
In an interview with CNN, Trump said his 20 point Gaza peace plan requires Hamas to release all hostages. The group must also surrender control of Gaza and disarm in return for Israel withdrawing its troops and releasing Palestinian prisoners.
The plan has been accepted by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu but offers no path to Palestinian statehood. Hamas has agreed only to release hostages and support Israeli troop withdrawal. It is demanding further talks on disarmament and future governance.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Hamas had basically agreed to the framework. He said upcoming technical talks in Egypt will show if Hamas is serious about peace. Israel has confirmed that its negotiators are travelling to Cairo for indirect discussions.
Trump called the proposal a great deal for Israel. Germany’s Chancellor Friedrich Merz also supported the initiative. He said it offers the best chance for peace nearly two years after the 2023 Gaza war.
Despite diplomatic efforts, airstrikes continued across Gaza. The Gaza health ministry reported at least 65 Palestinians killed in the last 24 hours.
