Doha Qatar, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani has urged all parties to seize the momentum for a ceasefire in Gaza under the Qatari PM Mediation plan. The initiative supported by US President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu aims to stop the killing and displacement of Palestinians while opening opportunities for negotiations.
The plan backed by Arab and Muslim nations including Saudi Arabia UAE Egypt Turkiye and Indonesia calls for an immediate halt to attacks full aid access release of Israeli captives and nearly 2,000 Palestinian prisoners and the demilitarisation of Hamas. An international force would oversee security while a Palestinian technocratic committee manages interim governance.
Sheikh Mohammed acknowledged challenges in implementation especially regarding Israel’s withdrawal and future Palestinian administration. Hamas has promised to examine the proposal but has not officially responded. Analysts warn that Palestinians are provided no guaranteed security under the plan.
The Qatari PM Mediation comes amid Israel’s ongoing offensive in Gaza City. Since October 7 2023 Israeli attacks have killed 66,097 Palestinians and injured 168,536. Aid restrictions continue to worsen malnutrition causing 453 hunger related deaths according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
