Vietnam has mobilized 100,000 military personnel to assist in the Vietnam evacuation of 250,000 residents as Typhoon Bualoi nears the country. The storm generates winds of 130 kilometers per hour and is expected to make landfall on Sunday. Authorities closed four domestic airports and recalled all fishing boats in the typhoon’s path.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh called for the highest level of readiness. Residents in coastal areas were urged to secure vessels and prepare for potential flooding and landslides. Troops and emergency teams are reinforcing coastlines with sandbags and barriers.
The storm previously hit the Philippines killing at least 10 people and leaving 10 missing. Scientists warn climate change is making storms more intense and unpredictable. Vietnam has already suffered more than 100 deaths or missing people from natural disasters this year.
Three fishermen went missing off Quang Tri province after their vessels sank. Authorities rescued eight others. In Da Nang over 210,000 residents are being evacuated. More than 32,000 people in Hue are also relocated to safer areas. Local teams are mobilizing trucks and materials to protect communities.
Officials warn that Typhoon Bualoi could trigger multiple natural disasters including strong winds heavy rain floods flash floods and landslides. The government is urging people to follow evacuation orders and stay in safe shelters until the storm passes.
