Gaza Aid Flotilla Attack targeted pro Palestinian activists aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla off Greece. The flotilla faced drone strikes explosions and suspected chemical sprays. Organisers confirmed that the humanitarian mission to Gaza continues despite attacks.
Activists on the Gaza bound Global Sumud Flotilla reported drone attacks and explosions from Tuesday night to Wednesday morning. The flotilla carries humanitarian aid to Gaza with 51 boats. Organisers said multiple drones dropped objects and jammed communications while explosions were heard from several boats. Brazilian organiser Tiago Avila said 10 attacks used sound bombs explosive flares and suspected chemicals on the boats.
US activist Greg Stoker said his boat near Crete was targeted by a quadcopter that dropped an explosive device on deck. Other boats faced similar attacks and their radios were hijacked with adversarial messages. Israel said the flotilla was serving Hamas and asked them to hand over aid for transfer to Gaza but organisers refused.
If the flotilla continues to reject Israel’s peaceful proposal Israel will take necessary measures to prevent entry into the combat zone and to stop violations of a lawful naval blockade while ensuring passenger safety the Israeli statement read. Avila condemned the statement as manipulation by the Zionist regime. We can never believe an occupying force committing genocide will deliver aid. It is not in their interests.
The flotilla had already been targeted in two suspected drone attacks in Tunisia before resuming its voyage towards Gaza.
