Washington Sep 26 (APP) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif held a landmark Shehbaz Sharif Trump meeting with US President Donald Trump at the White House on Thursday to discuss regional security counterterrorism and bilateral cooperation The first official interaction between the two leaders took place in the Oval Office in the early hours of Friday according to a press release from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO)
PM Shehbaz was accompanied by Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir while President Trump was joined by US Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio. During the discussions PM Shehbaz thanked President Trump for his public endorsement of Pakistan’s role in counterterrorism and emphasized the need to strengthen security and intelligence cooperation. He lauded Trump as a man of peace and commended his decisive efforts in mediating the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India.
The Prime Minister extended an official invitation to President Trump to visit Pakistan at his convenience. On the Middle East situation PM Shehbaz appreciated Trump’s initiative to convene key Muslim world leaders in New York to restore peace in Gaza and the West Bank. The meeting also covered economic and trade matters. PM Shehbaz thanked President Trump for the recent tariff agreement with Pakistan and invited US companies to invest in Pakistan’s agriculture IT mining minerals and energy sectors.
Photos released after the meeting showed cordial interactions with Trump giving his signature thumbs up alongside Field Marshal Munir. The meeting lasted approximately one hour and 20 minutes. Earlier informal interactions occurred in New York during the Arab-Islamic Summit hosted by Trump and Qatar’s Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Than where both leaders shared a warm handshake and a candid exchange of views.

PM Shehbaz who is visiting the US primarily to attend the 80th UN General Assembly will return to New York to address the UNGA. He praised President Trump for facilitating the Pakistan India ceasefire and highlighted the importance of US mediation in maintaining regional stability. The meeting follows a high level US delegation visit to Pakistan. Two MoUs on critical minerals including rare earth elements were signed on September 8.
