CAS Gymnastics Rejection has sparked debate after the Court of Arbitration for Sport dismissed Israel’s appeal to compete at the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Indonesia, following the country’s refusal to issue visas to Israeli athletes.
The Court of Arbitration for Sport has delivered its verdict in the CAS Gymnastics Rejection case. The appeal by the Israel Gymnastics Federation to allow its athletes to compete in the Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta has been rejected. The decision follows Indonesia’s refusal to issue visas to Israeli gymnasts. Israel had also urged the International Gymnastics Federation to ensure participation or relocate the event but CAS ruled that FIG has no authority over Indonesia’s visa policies.
Indonesia’s move came amid strong public opposition in the Muslim-majority nation that supports Palestinians. Israel’s team, including Olympic gold medallist Artem Dolgopyat, now faces exclusion despite earlier assurances of participation. The CAS Gymnastics Rejection highlights the growing global backlash against Israel amid the Gaza crisis.
