The Supreme Court rejects Ghislaine Maxwell appeal confirming her 20 year prison sentence for sex trafficking linked to Jeffrey Epstein. The court offered no explanation for its decision leaving Maxwell’s legal team frustrated and out of major options
Her lawyer David Oscar Markus said they were deeply disappointed but would continue to explore ways to seek justice. Maxwell was found guilty in 2021 for helping lure and groom underage girls for Epstein between 1994 and 2004. Prosecutors said she played a critical role in arranging meetings for Epstein to exploit the victims some as young as 14
Family members of Virginia Roberts Giuffre one of Epstein’s known victims expressed gratitude after the court’s decision saying they want Maxwell to serve her full sentence. They also urged the Justice Department to ensure she remains in proper custody
Maxwell’s legal team had appealed the conviction arguing she was unfairly tried. However the Supreme Court rejection means her sentence stands unless a future president grants a pardon. There has been speculation that Donald Trump might consider it but the White House stated no leniency was being discussed
Recently Maxwell was questioned by US federal agents about others who may have been involved in Epstein’s trafficking network. She denied witnessing any misconduct involving Trump or other public figures during her time with Epstein
Currently she is held at a low security prison in Texas but victims families continue to push for her transfer to a tougher facility arguing that her crimes warrant stricter confinement. For now the Supreme Court’s rejection of Maxwell’s appeal marks another chapter closing in the long running Epstein saga
