Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy did not cause the fatal accident in December 2024 according to his attorney. The accident in Lafourche Parish Louisiana involved a head on collision that killed 78 year old Herman Hall.
Attorney Matt Ory said Lacy’s car was far behind the crash and not visible in surveillance video at the time of the accident. Lacy was 72.6 yards behind the vehicles involved in the collision. Ory said data shows Lacy passed four cars before returning to his lane well behind the accident.
Police had previously alleged Lacy crossed the center line causing other vehicles to swerve which led to the crash. The attorney said the story presented in reports did not match the evidence.
Kyren Lacy later died in April 2025 by a self inflicted gunshot wound two days before his grand jury appearance. He had previously been charged with negligent homicide felony hit and run and reckless operation of a vehicle.
Lacy had a successful college career catching 162 passes for 2360 yards and 26 touchdowns playing for Louisiana and LSU. He led the SEC with nine touchdown receptions in 12 games in 2024. Despite being viewed as an NFL prospect his name was not included in the NFL Scouting Combine invite list after his arrest.
