Tropical Storm Gabrielle is forecast to become a hurricane later today. The storm is currently north of the Leeward Islands with winds of 65 mph and moving northwest at 9 mph.
Forecasters say Gabrielle will continue strengthening as it tracks east of Bermuda. While a direct landfall is not expected the island may still face strong winds and heavy rainfall through Monday.

The National Hurricane Center reports that swells from Gabrielle could create dangerous rip currents along Florida’s east coast next week. People near the coast are advised to use caution in the water.
Another tropical wave in the Atlantic is also being monitored for possible development. The chances of formation remain low in the short term but could reach up to 30 percent within seven days.
The 2025 Atlantic hurricane season runs until November 30. Gabrielle is the seventh named storm so far and is expected to become the second hurricane of the season.
